ON TREND > QUARTZ

The girly side of me is really feeling this whole quartz trend.  Especially anything rose quartz.  So think outside of the (jewelry) box and go for some quartz around the home or maybe just on your phone?

NON-MATERNITY MATERNITY WEAR

Ok when I found out I was pregnant I told myself I wouldn't need to go out and buy maternity clothes.  That has been mostly true.  (The exception being leggings - those go without saying - and one maternity top from Target - more on that later.)  I knew with the latest style trends I would be able to get a lot of oversized tops and maxi dresses and avoid buying something I would never wear again.  Enter:
Free People is probably my favorite place to shop for my belly.   Lots of oversized, comfy tees like the Circle in the Sand and the Sibela.  And my favorite item of clothing ever - the San Jose maxi dress.  I have it in black and white and wear them at least once a week.

Being a SoCal girl, Swell is one of my favorite online shops and it was one of the first places I looked for good maxi dresses like this Tiare dress.  I then stumbled upon this embroidered mini dress and fell in love with the color.  However - it's way more muted in real life so keep that in mind - but I still love it and wear it with leggings and look forward to the day when I can just wear it as a mini and my belly won't make it 6 inches shorter.
Ok so my one "maternity" purchase?  This super comfy Liz Lange top.  When I bought it a light bulb went off and I kinda realized why people do buy maternity clothes - it makes my belly look so cute! It really is flattering and I can dress it up with black leggings, booties and a cute scarf.

So there you have it - those are some of the pieces in the rotation these days.  Most of the time I'm in sweats and pjs if I'm not leaving the house because it's getting to the point where dressing this body can be a bit of a chore...but it's nice to have a few items that make you want to show off your growing belly.

Tell me what are/were your favorite pieces to wear when pregnant…and no, your bathrobe doesn't count.

PALETTES > INDIGO

Lately I've had a total crush on indigo.  I can't get enough of it.  I want to dip dye/tye dye just dye stuff with it.  I want to remodel my guest bathroom around it (more on that later).  I want to bathe in it….well, you get the idea.  Maybe it's this baby boy brewing inside me?

1. I'm not really wearing much lace these days but once this boy is out and it's time to get back into it (if you know what I mean) this Hanky Panky Lace Bra is definitely on the list.

2. This. Glass. Platter.  Enough said.

3. Butter London polish is hands down my have.  It's 3 Free so safe for me and safe for the babe.  In Indigo Punk and Giddy Kipper

4. Remember when I was talking about dip dying stuff?  Yeah.

5. Another item on my never-ending to do list/resolution is to have more candles around the house.  This hand-painted votive would do the trick.  Imagine soaking in the tub of my newly remodeled indigo bathroom with soft light flickering from this little guy.  aahhh.

6.  We just bought a velvet glider for the nursery and after sitting in that thing I don't think I could ever sit on something that wasn't velvet.  It is life-changing.  Change your life with this guy.

7. If you've ever been to my house than you know I own 1,456,213 pillows.  What's one more?

8.  Snakeskin cross body in the perfect shade of indigo.  What more could you ask for?

OH MARA...

Ms. Hoffman can do no wrong in my eyes. Perfection in every detail as evident by her 2014 Resort Swim collection.  I'll take one of each, please.

CHEAP THRILLS: FOREVER21 FLORAL MAXI

I recently ordered this flowy, floral maxi from Forever21 and I'm completely obsessed.  I practically live in maxi dresses in the summertime so it was a sweet little pick up.  I love to pair it with my denim jacket and leather sandals or a leather jacket and booties or even throw an oversized sweater on top.  super versatile, easily dressed up or down.  A perfect addition to my wardrobe.

SUMMER IS FOR CAMPING

Nothing says summer like a good old camping trip.  Rich and I are headed out to Sequoia National Park for some quiet time with just us and Zulu, a few cold beers, the giant trees, a few bears, a tent, air mattress, flashlights, lanterns, matches, bio-degradable soap... But really - all you need is the perfect camping outfit and a cozy blanket to snuggle up under the stars.  Am I right?

2013 GOLDEN GLOBES: BEST DRESSED

all images via RCFA

Did you all watch the Golden Globes last night? Or at least the Red Carpet?  What were your thoughts on the all the fashions?  I was actually quite impressed!  Obviously I have a thing for black and gold right now as the colors weren't doing much for me last night....

Emily Blunt killed it in Michael Kors and though I LOVED Julianne Hough's hair and make up and the top of her dress - I wasn't crazy about all the tulle and layers and would have loved to see it in a more fitted silhouette.

My honorable mentions:
Kate Hudson: girl can do boho chic like no one else
Kristen Bell: how cute was she with her baby bump?
Claire Danes: she just gave birth! plus homeland is one of my favorite shows ever
Amanda Seyfriend: would have been a favorite but I just felt something was missing

That's my two cents! Tell me your faves (and not so faves) xo

OHHH YES

Can you even handle this??  It's only $18,000 dollars.  You can preorder it here.  (ha!)

PALETTE: HOLIDAYS BASICS

image via coast to coast challenge
So I loved this image from the second I saw and instantly pinned it on my pinterest page.  I think it's all that gorgeous light coming in from behind her.
I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it exactly until I thought of doing a holiday party apparel post.  And what's better during the holiday than basic black with a little shimmer.  Using this color palette you can create an array of looks and still avoid the obvious LBD or LGD (little gold dress):

- black high waist pants with a gold sequin top
- silk black blouse with a gold skirt
- nude maxi pleat skirt with black tank and gold belt

(just to name a few...)

So what are your holiday party go to looks?  Do you keep it simple or go all out?
And when you arrive at your party - don't forget your hostess gift - perhaps one wrapped in a little shimmer all its own?

ON THE HUNT FOR: BOYFRIEND JEANS

Free People // ASOS // J Brand left // J Brand right // True Religion // Current Elliott

When it comes to finding the perfect pair of distressed boyfriend jeans I turn into Goldilocks. Those are too loose, those are too tight, those just look dirty.
So as I continue my search for the pair that's just right - I cruised Polyvore and found a few options.  Of course if we're being honest only the pair from ASOS are in my budget - and still - they look a little tight, don't they?
Have you found your perfect pair? Do tell.

MADE IN THE USA: LUSH

More than ever I'm incredibly conscious of where the products I buy are made.  It really started last Thanksgiving when my South African born (now American) mother-in-law brought to our family's attention the amount of products being Made in China and elsewhere.  Most importantly not being made here in the US.  When you start checking labels - it really drives it home.  I'm not here to preach but if you need some reasons to start checking those labels - read this.

So this Thanksgiving on Small Business Saturday - Mom, Mom-in-law, Sis-in-Law and myself all went down to "the village" to shop small and shop local.  Two birds.  Imagine my surprise - when I found this blouse at a local boutique AND it was MADE in the USA! Kudos to Lush.  (now - I have to disclaim that I don't think all of their products are USA made - but some is better than none)

Doesn't it remind you of a candy cane? fun and festive and perfect for the holidays!

BABY IT'S (KINDA) COLD OUTSIDE

It's like 60 degrees here in San Diego and the sun isn't even shining so it's probably time to pull out the two Brixton beanies I own.  If I lived anywhere else I would be rocking these guys in a heartbeat.

FESTIVE FROCKS

It's that time of year and those holiday fetés are just around the corner.  I've pulled together a few festive looks that are sure to get you in the yuletide spirit.

CHEAP THRILLS : JCP

I've heard a few people talking about all their great finds at JCP recently and figured I had to check it out for myself.   So I cruised into my super awesome local mall (the people watching is amazing) and made it to the department store.  I actually found quite a few pieces to try on but since the excursion was completely on a whim I decided to play it safe and walked away with a pair of levi's jeggings (can we please come up with a new term?) and a simple crocheted sweater that I thought had a bit of a free people feel. (wouldn't you agree?) All in all - I was pleasantly surprised and will definitely head back for more cheap thrills.  PS - here's an instagram pic of me wearing both pieces...

WHAT I WEAR: FOR WORK

One of the best things about working for myself is wearing whatever I want.  (which on most days is sweats or pjs)  if I do leave the house for meetings or shoots I do try to put a little effort in.  My staples are definitely skinny jeans (bonus for color - and coral is my absolute favorite) a  comfy, airy blouse and always flats.  Moccasins are easily my shoe of choice.  I throw on a few accessories (usually a bracelet or a sparkly headband) and I'm out! work

INTERIORS: PASTELS

It's easy to incorporate some pastels into your wardrobe but would you dare splash them throughout your house?  These interiors are making me look at those soft shades a little differently...
